BibliU Announces First California Partnership with Peralta Community College District

OAKLAND, Calif. — Peralta Community College District (PCCD) has selected BibliU as its new campus store and course materials partner, marking BibliU’s first partnership in California and supporting a district that serves more than 13,800 students across Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College. BibliU will support bookstore and eCommerce operations for the district’s four colleges, helping improve affordability, simplify operations, and modernize the campus store experience.

The district sought a partner capable of delivering consistent, high-quality service across both physical and digital channels while reducing administrative burden for faculty and staff. Just as importantly, it wanted to improve the overall experience for students accessing course materials and engaging with campus retail.

As part of the transition, BibliU will modernize Peralta's campus retail operations, including the renovation of one physical campus store and the launch of three eCommerce storefronts serving campuses across the district. The transition is designed to create a more seamless and responsive retail experience while expanding access to merchandise, supplies, technology products, and campus-branded items that reflect the unique identity and needs of each college community.

Building on that foundation, Peralta Community College District will also introduce BibliU Access, opting for a variable pricing model designed to expand affordability and improve access to required course materials from the first day of class. Under this model, students are only charged when publisher content is adopted, helping reduce unnecessary costs while preserving faculty choice and supporting a range of course material approaches, including OER. The rollout reflects the district’s ongoing efforts to simplify the course materials experience, reduce barriers to access, and create a more flexible and accessible approach to course material delivery across the district.

The Peralta partnership reflects a broader shift among community colleges toward more flexible, transparent, and student-centered approaches to campus retail and course material access. As institutions reevaluate traditional bookstore and flat-fee access models, BibliU’s combination of retail operations, digital course material delivery, and flexible access programs is helping colleges modernize longstanding processes while expanding affordability and preserving flexibility for both students and faculty.

“BibliU’s mission has always been to help remove the financial barriers that can stand between students and their degrees,” said Dave Sherwood, Founder & CEO of BibliU. “As Peralta Community College District enters an important new chapter and reimagines how it serves its students, we’re proud to support that momentum by helping transform the campus store experience so students can start the semester with the materials they need.”

For Peralta's 13,800 students, this partnership means more than a new bookstore — it means materials on Day 1, costs that reflect actual use, and a campus store built around their success.
